Sonic Frontiers

Sunday 19 February 6pm €5

Join us for an eclectic evening of “Sonic Frontiers” as we bring together three genre-blending avant-garde artists at the forefront of music: Human Name (IL), Tonto (NL) and Fake Music For Travellers (PT).

Human Name” is the stage name for experimental loop musician Steven Stringer. Human Name utilises a combination of looping guitar, soft vocal arrangements and improvised sounds blossoming into dream-like textures.

Musical multitalent Fransico Zedde brings his electric, post-punk one-man band “Tonto”. Performed on acoustic drums, electronics and soul wrenching vocals, Tonto’s rumbling tour stops in Lisbon for a night of consuming experimentalism.

Fake Music For Travellers” is a Lisbon-based experimental musical duo consisting of Fernando Cainço and Rui Veiga – one on analogue keyboards and the other on electronics and guitar. An ambient ensemble of synthesizers traveling through time, space, into the deep, into contemplation, into elevation.

Human Name

is the stage name for experimental loop musician Steven Stringer. Human Name utilises a combination of looping guitar, vocals and improvised sound to create an experimental dream-like texture.

Human Name employs techniques learned from a life of travelling and playing with other musicians in various projects, bands and contexts. From Irish folk roots, to Welsh Indie rock, jazz and hip hop in Germany, then the beginning of the experimental alternative journey in Japan has now led to a new life in Lisbon. Human Name is a true musician’s journey combining an eclectic mix of folk and experimental, softly building soothing vocal arrangements, sincere lyricism and bittersweet melodies.

Francesco Zedde

TONTO-4-1

is a multi-instrumentalist, sound designer, composer, and improviser based in Utrecht. Graduated in electronic music, scoring for films, sound design and sound engineering, he has been the member of 13 different projects/bands between 2012 and 2020, has released 6 solo albums, and has taken part to more than 25 records and 475 concerts in 17 countries.

Most of his music is released under the monikers “Tacet Tacet Tacet” and “Tonto”, a post-punk one man band performed with a processed drumset and vocals. Aside from these activities, he is also the founder and organizer of Discomfort Dispatch, a series of free improvisation concerts/ festivals and carries his own research activities on augmented instruments, hacking and new media arts.

Tonto” is Fra Zedde’s solo project, booming stages since 2016. A Post-punk, noisy one-man band played with an acoustic drumset, live electronics, and vocals. Costume and acting involve elements of performance art—more than 200 shows worldwide, coproduced by 15 independent labels. “Tonto is the heir of the most perverted wet dreams of Lightning Bolt, Shellac, Zu, and Death Grips.

The project was born from the attempt of creating a raw and spontaneous show by taking advantage of fairly complicated audio technologies. Ignoring overt structures and methods in favour of a wild barbarism and of non-verbal expressiveness, Tonto is a musician through a computer, a monkey in a spaceship.”
