As the name indicates, it is in trial and error that the visual artists EFFE and Isabel Murteira will combine their peculiar artistic styles in a playful game of experimentation and rehearsals, in which the final result will not grant right or wrong answers. In the artistic residency of the Collective 404, among graffiti cans and acrylics, the artists are interested in the creative process and in the uncertainty of the results. It is this adrenaline, accompanied by the curiosity of experimentation, that will guide the artists to the final images. The short duration of the residency will challenge the artists to the limit, however, in a relaxed environment where trial and error is implicit from the beginning. The result of the residency can be seen in the following exhibition days.

Isabel Murteira
Completed a degree in Painting at FBAUL (2019). Did the Erasmus Program (Jan – Jul 2019) at the Engraving Department, Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. Completed a professional internship at the Educational Service Department of the Museu do Oriente, Lisbon (Nov. 2019 – Aug. 2020) Her artistic career is mainly manifested in painting. Generally, the artist’s paintings are narratives that invade her mind – that arise from a mixture of imagination and reality. Other times, starting from the self-portrait, they express divergent mental states that appear suddenly such as: melancholy, nostalgia but also joy and allegory. The paintings reveal to us a parallel universe that exists only in her head. Everything is possible in this dimension, such as distorted scenarios, objects that come to life and imaginary creatures, revealing to the viewer a universe that, in a way, creates discomfort and, in another way, gives them space to read and create their own story. It’s an enigma where mystery and reality get mixed up behind the scenes of the paintings.
EFFE
EFFE artist, multi-disciplinary creative born in Alentejo, Portugal. Based on graphic and digital design, has focused on projects in the areas of street art and illustration. Has already worked with clients such as GAU and Jornal PÚBLICO. Had the opportunity to participate in exhibitions in cities like Lisbon or Tel Aviv and collaborate with artists from different countries such as Northern Ireland and New Zealand. Addressing different themes, in the projects where he participates, he seeks to represent the interaction between human beings and the environment around us, from strong lines and colors to create contrast.
